About Helene: I am originally from New Zealand, and I have also lived in the UK, Australia and for a short time in Hawaii. 10 years ago, I moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida and a few months later decided to get a pup. My grandfather on my mother's side was from the island of Malta so I thought it would be fun to get a Maltese so he would be like his mama Helene who is part Maltese! (my sense of humor!). I have worked in Information Technology most of my adult life and I am also a certified life and career coach which is a passion of mine.
About Harry: After trying to adopt a Maltese without joy, I heard about a wee Maltese male pup from a friend at work. It was love at first sight and a couple of weeks later that little pup came to live with me. I am a big Harry Potter fan and with his spunky personality, I knew straight away I should call him Harry and as the saying goes the rest is history. Harry was born on the 6th of December 2014 and the gotcha day was 1st April 2015. He is an enthusiastic, happy, fun and lovable 9-year-old with the double-digit number 10 birthday coming up this December.
Harry has a very strong personality and is very active. Recently his holistic vet, Dr Jessie said he has FOMO (I had to look it up...LOL) it means 'fear of missing out' and that does describe him well, as he really only sleeps at night, loves to be out and about all the time. He thinks he is 90 pounds instead of 9, loves racing the big dogs and he acts like it is the end of the world if I do not take him to the dog park at least once a day.
Harry's Closet: When I first got Harry, I said I would never put him in clothes (I was so wrong!). My previous dog Mac was a big mastiff so dressing him in clothes was something I had never thought of doing. Well that all ended when he was 6 months old, and he got his first t-shirt. I could not believe how excited he was to put it on, and he then pranced around as if he was a superstar! Now to say it has got a bit carried away would be an understatement. Harry has more clothes than most people, many different t-shirts, shirts, jackets and costumes, not to mention the accessories like sunglasses, hats, bandana's, bow ties to wear when it is too hot for the clothing!
Instagram: I started Harry's Instagram #malteseharry a couple of years ago. It is fun to share puppy park reviews, fun videos and photos. We love the holidays, and he has the clothes/costumes to go with each special occasion. It has been really wonderful, and we have had a lot of fun getting to know pups and their humans all around the world.
Travel: As well as living in four countries, I have travelled to over 70 and I am very lucky that Harry loves to travel as much as I do. We enjoy doing road trips around the US, and we just completed an exciting multi country European road trip in September of 2024! I am now planning more travel abroad in 2025!
Health: Harry was diagnosed over a year ago with collapsed trachea. I was so shocked and devastated as he is such an active pup, and I was told not let him run or get excited and the drugs they give to treat the symptoms have horrible life shorting side effects. This started my mission to do everything in my power to cure an uncurable illness. I am happy to say with the holistic approach Harry lives his life to the full and it is totally under control. While on my search to understand this illness I learnt so much more. I was able to fix his sensitive stomach issues and have changed his diet and vaccine protocol.
Summary:
I always thought I was the best dog mama but now I have learnt there were things I could have done differently. This is the main reason I created www.malteseharry.com. I want to share what I have learnt so far and what I continue to learn. As I mentioned above, one of my passions is coaching, another passion is animals, I love all animals and from when I was young, I would joke that I wanted to be Mrs. Dolittle (talk to the animals like Dr Dolittle). I have fostered wildlife for the local sanctuary and always look for ways to help. Of course, my biggest passion is Harry, so my plan is to gain a holistic pet health coaching certification so I can continue to learn and also help others. I am really excited to see where it takes us.
My goal: Help as many pups as possible by sharing everything I have learnt about collapsed trachea and other diet and health related topics, but also to have fun, share our adventure's, travel blogs & tips!
I hope you will join me on my journey to give Maltese Harry the very best life!
